The 2009 Robert Kumpe Scholarship Winners are:

Blythe Worstell, is a senior at Whitmer High School and plans to major in Biomedical Engineering at The Ohio State University in the fall. She is the recipient of a $3,000.00 scholarship.  Blythe is the daughter of Eric and Julie Worstell. As a student at Whitmer High School, Blythe was a member of the Varsity Soccer Team, Speech and Debate Team, Student Council, the National Honor Society, and STAMP. Blythe has also worked with the Stage Crew and Stage Manager for Whitmer’s school plays.  Through various community service efforts, Blythe helped with the Toledo Zoo Teen Conservation Committee.  Being a, Toledo Blade Student of the Month, receiving the Superintendent’s Award, US Air Force Academy Summer Seminar Attendee, Buckeye Girls State Delegate, Math and Spanish Honorary, and having several art pieces at FOCUS and the Governor’s Art Shows are several of Blythe’s accomplishments over the years.  Blythe participated in the NWOYSL by playing in the Glass City/Washington Local Soccer Club, Toledo Celtics, and Pacesetter Soccer Club.

 

Victor Lin, a senior at Sylvania Southview High School, plans to major in Economics at the University of Chicago in the fall.  Victor played soccer at Sylvania Southview H.S. as well as for the Pacesetter Soccer Club and has served as referee for many NWOYSL soccer games. Over the past four years, Victor has participated in the Dance for a Chance, a Metroparks Counselor, Mock Trial, Speech and Debate Team, Student Government, and is a certified soccer referee.  His volunteer work also includes piano playing for First United Methodist Church “Praise Team”.  Victor is also a National Merit Semifinalist and has been on the Honor Roll all four years at Southview HS.  Victor received First Team All-League NLL and Second Team All District for soccer and was a team captain.  The son of Drs. En-Bing and Michelle Lin, Victor is the recipient of a $2,500 scholarship

 

 

 

Sarah Baum, senior at Perrysburg High School, is the winner of a $2,000 scholarship.  Sarah plans to attend John Carroll University in the fall.  Sarah was a member of the ODP since 2002 as a participant, State Team and even Regional Camp. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, PASA, French Club, and Pride Club.  Sarah has volunteered as a soccer coach for Rossford Soccer Club as well as Perrysburg where she referees youth games.  Sarah’s honors include Northwest and Ohio Scholastics Coaches Association Award for Academic Excellence, NLL Senior All Academic Soccer Team, National Honors Society and Honor Roll at Perrysburg HS.  She was a member of the Pacesetter and Rossford City Soccer Club where she participated in the NWOYSL, Sarah has also volunteered for the Festival Tournament as a field marshal.

 

 

 

Nicholas Pietrykowski, son of Phil and Kim, is a senior at Northview High School.  Leo Club, Northview High School Office Aid, School Clean up Committee and various soccer camps are all recipients of Nicholas’s volunteering efforts.  While at Northview H.S., Nicholas was a member of the Varsity Soccer squad, Varsity Swimming, Spanish Club, Table Tennis Club, Marching Band his freshman year, and Connections Homeroom Leader.  He received the Northern Lakes Honorable Mention Award for soccer and was on the Senior All-Academic Team. Nicholas has also received Most Improved Swimmer, NLL Honorable Mention and Senior All Academic Team for Swimming. Nicholas played soccer for the Pacesetter Soccer Club.  Serving as a certified referee Nicholas has refereed at both NWOYSL games and Festival tournament games; Nicholas has also severed as a field marshal for the Festival tournament.  In the fall, Nicholas will be attending the University of Toledo where he will major in Pre-physical therapy.  Nicholas is the recipient of a $1,500 scholarship.

 

 

Matthew Smith, son of Robert and Stephanie, is the recipient of a $1,000 award.  Matthew, a senior at Perrysburg High School, earned varsity letters in soccer.  Matthew has attended several of Grace Church mission trips.  Over the past four years, Matthew has volunteered for the Anthony Wayne Soccer Club as a maintenance person as well as a coach. Matthew also has severed as a referee for the Perrysburg Recreational League. Receiving the 2008 Sportsmanship Award in Soccer and High Honor Roll are among Matthew’s honorary accomplishments. Matthew works as a dietary assistant at Kingston Residence. While playing in the NWOYSL, Matthew played for the Anthony Wayne and Pacesetter Soccer Club.  Matthew will be attending either the University of Cincinnati in the fall, where he will major in Mechanical Engineering.
